Break barriers in audiology.

Providing clear communication is essential to audiology. Standard face masks block the ability to see visual cues and facial expressions. Patients who are deaf or hard of hearing or those who heavily rely on clear communication often struggle to understand their audiologist when traditional masks are worn, negatively impacting the quality of services received.

Unlike standard face masks, the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Mask provides full visibility to the face. Regardless of hearing status, audiology patients can benefit from seeing their doctors’ faces and visual cues through transparent masks. Through clear communication, audiologists are able to provide better quality of care and build trust with their patients.

“We were quick to realize the importance and benefits of the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks and ordered ours early on in the pandemic. Since we have been using them, we have heard universally positive feedback from our patients and their family and friends. So much so that after our patients and their loved ones began asking for them, we made a decision to offer them to those in need in our community. But beyond the obvious communication benefits, even just seeing a smile has been therapeutic for our patients!”

Improves access to full communication

“Wearing a face mask has become very common during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who are deaf and hard of hearing have found communication to be increasingly challenging with visual cues removed from conversations. We use the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Masks to ensure nothing is lost in translation during every patient appointment.” - Aurora Audiology LLC

Strengthens patient-centered care

“So many deaf and hard of hearing individuals have been affected by the pandemic. When we have traditional masks on, they can’t read your lips and trying to communicate with them is very difficult, almost impossible. The ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Mask has changed the whole dynamic of my patient care. I wish you could see the look on my patients’ faces when they could actually understand what I was saying!” — Pawnee Indian Health Center

Increases connection with others

"I use the ClearMask™ Transparent Surgical Mask in the clinic to add comfort and communication for my patients. Many of them comment that they feel more connected and relaxed because they are able to see my face! This mask has really opened doors and has reduced many feelings of isolation." - Lauren

Promotes accessibility and universal design for all

“Rush audiologists advocated for the purchase and distribution of clear face masks. This initiative has ensured clearer communication for many at Rush: clinicians, support staff, faculty, students, patients, visitors and even young children whose parents depend on our day school for education and child care." - Rush University Medical Center

Is the ClearMask™ a face shield?

No, the ClearMask™ brand produces transparent surgical masks and transparent face masks, which offer distinctly different protection than transparent face shields. The CDC does not recommend using face shields or goggles as a substitute for masks. For more information about the differences between surgical masks, face masks, and face shields, please view the CDC guidelines. The ClearMask™ brand does not make transparent face shields, only transparent surgical masks and transparent face masks that cover the wearer’s mouth and nose when worn properly.
